There are a variety of selectors that you may acquire from playing. Each one may have a different selection of units on it. The contents of selectors never change once created, so there is no reason to hold selectors to see if new units are added. However, if you are a new player and are still receiving your 7 days of free summons, or plan to do summons soon, you may want to see what you get from those summons before using your selector.

Types of Selectors

New Player Free Selector

New players get a free selector in the mail for any of the following units, and 3 50-shard selectors with the same units:

Albea, Anastasia, Ankh, Annika, Aruba, Aswald, Balt, Chao, Chloe, Cordelia, Creto, Daisy, Deneb, Dorothea, Eizan, Elizabeth, Emma, Eve, Fairily, Flamel, Fraise, Fung Liu, Gerald, Gormalas, Hazel, Hugo, Ila, Itsuki, Izayoi, Jin, Klima, Leoniaz, Lucia, Lucretia, Lupinus, Magnus, Margaret, Mei Fang, Mielikki, Mikoto, Nasario, Natalie, Neica, Noah, Olga, Priscilla, Ramses, Ravina, Reido, Reimei, Rosa, Ryle, Setsuna, Shayna, Shenmei, Sophia, Spica, Suzuka, Tamamo, Teona, Tethys, Tomas, Tsang Lei, Vettel, Vivi, Yomi, Yunagi, Zahar, Zofia

This selector does not expire.

Challenge Board 6 Selector

After completing Challenge Board 6, you will also receive another selector which has a much more limited selection of units.

Albea, Anastasia, Aruba, Aswald, Balt, Chloe, Deneb, Dorothea, Elizabeth, Eve, Flamel, Fraise, Fung Liu, Gormalas, Hazel, Lucretia, Lupinus, Magnus, Margaret, Mei Fang, Mielikki, Neica, Ramses, Reimei, Rosa, Ryle, Shayna, Shenmei, Spica, Suzuka, Teona, Vettel, Vivi, Yomi, Zahar

This selector expires after 2 weeks so you should use it before expiring. If you don't have her, Spica may be the best choice from this selector as she's pretty strong with her job+ and it is in the event archive.

Popular Unit Selector

This selector can be purchased with paid gems in the Beginner Shop available during the first 7 days of playing. It contains only 6 units: Gerald, Zahar, Spica, Setsuna, Yauras, Vettel. All new accounts get Setsuna for free so she is not worth selecting. Spica, Zahar and Vettel can be obtained via the Challenge Board 6 selector so they are lower priority- Vettel also requires a time sensitive job+ event which is usually not running. Gerald and Yauras are the most attractive choices on this, since Yauras is not on the new player or challenge board selector (she also has a permanent job+ and time sensitive job++ but that is run fairly often) and Gerald is only on the new player one (and has a permanent job+) and is also a great starting unit.

This selector does not expire.

Other Unit Selectors

Other unit selectors may come from a variety of sources and depending on the source may have a different list of units. In most cases unit selectors will not have limited units on them, unless they are received as a reward for certain banners or monetary purchases. For standard normal pool unit selectors, typically they will contain all normal pool units released up until a certain date. If the selector only includes normal pool units, and does include the 6 normal pool templars, it is recommended to pick one of them you don't already own. The priority is typically Neun / Vier > Sieba > Füry / Zehn > Acht. These 6 units are in the normal pool but are only farmable 1/day if you own the unit, so typically you would want to get the ones you are missing before you take other units that you could farm while waiting to summon them. Note that most of the templars are not very useful without their Job+ Upgrades, so you should take them to start farming them, but wait for the job+ to run again before you actually invest in building the units. Since these are 1/day farm units you should also save their shards for enlightenment.

If you already have all the normal pool templars on the selector, or the selector is of a different type, you may want to ask for assistance in deciding who to pick. It's almost always preferable to pick a unit you don't own on a selector over a duplicate for shards.

Guidance on New Player Selector Unit Selection

Below is a list of good units to pick from the new player selector - the priority varies for other selectors. This assumes you are using the 3 50-shard selectors to get the unit to 75 right away and unlocking all 3 jobs. Without those extra shards, most units will not be very useful and the priority would be very different. Do not use any elemental shards to upgrade the unit further - most units are farmable (3 shards a day normally) and this is an inefficient use of resources, you will want to save those for good limited units.

Also keep in mind that this list is based on units that do not require time sensitive special events to acquire job upgrades to be good. It's a good idea to ask on Discord if there is a special event going on that may make another unit a higher priority temporarily.

Note: It is generally more efficient to wait until your first week of free summons is up before using a selector as you may get many of these units from your free pulls and we do not get many selectors. Mercenaries can carry you through the bulk of early content (make sure to add Friends) so it should not be a big problem for new players to wait.

Shayna
WaterElement

  • Good single target damage (specializes in melee range strike attacks) with ability to charge up for huge hits and a good job upgrade for the main job
  • Nice water physical damage leader skill
  • Master ability at 80, good enlightenment, 2 decent gacha mementos (4 star To be a Lady and 3 star Shayna Fanclub Membership Card)
  • Useful even with no limit breaks so may be better to get from summon or challenge board 6 unit selector
  • Farmable in Chapter 1

Note: Zahar is not listed as a recommended selector unit. This is not because he is not a good unit- he is actually quite strong, but because he doesn't become very strong until he has his 2nd enlightenment gate maxed at least (which requires a total of 490 character shards to access from 0 limit breaks). Prior to this he will be relatively weak compared to many other units and so isn't an ideal starter choice. It is still recommended you farm his shards whether you have him or not, and by the time you have enough shards to make him strong you will likely have obtained him from summons.

Time Limited Event Upgrade Units

Some solid units are available on the tutorial selector but are not generally recommended because of the time limited nature of their job upgrade events which are required to make them strong. If their event is currently available, or is expected to be available very soon, then they may be worth selecting.
